Wood, stone

The area around the Sibelius Hall features buildings and other structures that were awarded the Spirit of Nature prize for wood architecture, most of them by architects from abroad. The international prize was awarded every two years between 2000 and 2016 by the now discontinued Wood in Culture Association. The mission of the association was to support and promote wood architecture. Wood Architecture Park was a joint project between the city of Lahti and the association. Designed by Richard Leplastrier, Wooden Spiral, located in the roundabout at the junction of Ankkurikatu and Niemenkatu streets, was one of the first structures in the park.
