Raimo Utriainen

Anodised aluminium

The façade of Kivimaa School features The Large Modular Rhythm, designed by Raimo Utriainen, which is also known as The Wave Relief. The City of Lahti acquired the work from Utriainen in 1973 and work was unveiled the following year.

The three-dimensional work resembles waves: it has three wave crests, of which the middle one is narrowest. The anodised aluminium work has vertical, striped profiling, which enlivens its surface. The work stands out from the wall particularly when illuminated at dusk, with the light emphasising its wave-like form.
