Three Figures
Olavi Lanu
1994
Concrete
The Three Figures resting on a stone make for a serene and unhurried sculpture. Time seems to stand still around the petrified figures covered in moss. Reclining on a hard and angular piece of stone, the softly curving human bodies impart a beautiful fluidity and stark contrast of forms to the piece. The models for the work were the artist’s wife, Tarja Lanu, and his daughter Tessaliina and her husband Jussi. The same composition with three figures also appears in a fibreglass work called Kuusenhavu, currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts Eemil in Lapinlahti.
