Alatori park was reopened to the public after renovation on 24 September 2015. A year earlier, the city of Lahti had invited three Finnish artists to come up with ideas for the park, including its functionality and the art and street furniture to be placed there. The winner of the competition was Turku-based artist Jan-Erik Andersson, with his proposal The Second Awakening. In the centre of the structure is Sakari Tohka’s sculpture Marjatta. In the dark, the structure is transformed into a light work: all of the 50 metal columns are equipped with lights, and the yellow flame of the dome acts as a lantern. The concept refers to the pergola once found in the park, and the title is a nod to another piece by Sakari Tohka that used to stand at the site, called Awakening
