The Dreamer on the Shore

In August 2023, the mural The Dreamer on the Shore, by Heidi Katajamäki and Veera Inkeri, was completed on the north-western façade of the Ranta-Kartano parking building. The work is inspired by the surroundings of Ranta-Kartano and Pikku-Vesijärvi park, from which the visual motifs, colours and shapes of the work have been taken. The landscape theme combines natural and imaginative elements.

A prominent motif of the mural is a long-haired figure, sitting lost in thought on a rock by the shore. The figure was inspired by the sculptures of Olavi Lanu. The vegetation has the same form language as musical fountains, and the stones reflected as double images remind us of the nearby water bodies. The pastel colours of the mural harmonise with Lahti Manor, located opposite the building. With this work, the artists seek to highlight ecological and aesthetic values as spatial themes.
