Steel

The statue is a tribute to all ski jumpers and to the tradition of ski jumping. It was designed by architect Vesa Ekholm, who also designed the renovation of the normal hill for the Nordic World Ski Championships held in Lahti in 2017. The sculpture is located at Lahti Sports Centre, in front of the tallest ski jumping hill.

The stainless-steel statue depicts a ski jumper who has just taken to air, soaring four metres up from the pedestal. Performing the jump in the traditional style, the figure holds its skis close together, arms to the sides and body arching forward. When seen from a particular angle, the figure will appear to have just jumped into the air from the large hill looming in the background.
