Essi Renvall

1953

Bronze

The plaque on the wall of Lahti Manor shows the faces of K. J. Ståhlberg, P. E. Svinhufvud and A. A. Fellman. Below them is the text: “On 13 April 1903, constitutional lawyers met in this building for a secret resistance meeting.” The meeting was hosted by the lord of the manor, Fellman, and was attended by approximately 200 lawyers, among them Ståhlberg and Svinhufvud, both future presidents of the republic. The topics of the meeting included countermeasures against repressive Russian policy and its figurehead, Governor-General Nikolai Bobrikov. When word of the meeting leaked out, it was declared illegal and Fellman was banned from the country for 19 months.
