Messy Desk

2017

Mural

Organised since 2017, the UPEA urban art festival has produced murals for numerous locations in Finland. In 2017, Lahti received two murals. One of them, a cartoon-like piece by Hong Kong arts collective Messy Desk, has since become a colourful and unrivalled landmark on Ritaniemenkatu street in Mukkula. Because the mural is located across from the neighbourhood school, dozens of schoolchildren pass it every day.

The work covers two exterior walls of the lift tower of a seven-storey building. Reaching almost to the roof, the spectacular mural consists of numerous small and tightly joined cartoon-like figures and countless other details for the viewer to discover.
