This memorial to women in war was unveiled at Sairaalanmäki hill on 9 June 1992. The monument was designed by architect Unto Ojanen. It was erected in tribute to all the women who contributed to war efforts between 1939–1945.

Unto Ojonen (1909–1997) was a well-known modernist architect from Lahti who made a significant contribution to the urban landscape of Lahti. In the city centre alone are several dozen buildings designed by Ojonen. There are also several monuments designed by Ojonen in Lahti.
