Maidens of Laune

Bronze

The Maidens of Laune is a sculptural fountain depicting four female figures with cups in their raised hands, from which water flows. The maidens are positioned to face the spring of Laune, as suggested by the title. The work was donated to the city by Mallasjuoma in 1987 to honour the brewery’s 75th anniversary. With the sculpture, the company wanted celebrate the heritage of pure groundwater in Lahti. At the time the sculpture was unveiled, Mallasjuoma was the largest single consumer of water in Lahti. The original impetus behind the work was to express gratitude to the city of Lahti and its residents.
