Pentti Papinaho

Bronze

In front of the former municipal hall of Nastola stands Growth, a sculpture by Pentti Papinaho, an artist from Orimattila. The work was originally purchased by the municipality of Nastola directly from the artist. Following a municipal merger in 2016, the became part of the art collection of the city of Lahti.

Growth is a small abstract bronze sculpture that stands on one “leg” on a round natural stone. The lively pleat-like structure of the modernist sculpture conveys a sense of movement. The organic and fascinatingly irregular vocabulary of forms, with its upward slant, imbues the work with an expressive power, evoking notions of the energy, life and growth flowing throughout nature.
