Environmental art

Anna-Lea Kopperi is a visual artist known for her works of environmental and community art. Her Endless Berry Path in Mukkula was created with the participation of local residents. A total of 116 blackcurrant bushes were planted in Merrasoja – the number corresponding to the age of the city of Lahti. The seedlings were planted in a path shaped like the number eight, the symbol of infinity. The community aspect of the work arose from the collaboration with locals from different generations who participated in the planting and shared their experiences. Blackcurrants from Endless Berry Path are edible. The artist hopes that picking blackcurrants and tending the bushes will provide locals with an alternative and accessible way to engage in community activities.
