Diamond

The chemical formula of a diamond is painted on the façade of an office building at the Kujala waste processing centre in Lahti. The formula is a work of art by artist Anu Suhonen. Entitled Diamond, it uses renewable energy and consists of repeating geometric shapes representing molecular structures: cubes, spheres and lines. Through the concept of eternity expressed by the diamond theme, the artist has sought to highlight the endless cycle of generating and processing waste. The work’s fascinating and harmonious composition comes into its own in the evening, when the luminescent paint, which collects energy during the day, emits a phosphorescent glow as darkness falls.
