Plastic

Crucible by designer-artist Risto Pentikäinen was the winner of an environmental art competition organised in 2011 by Uponor Oy and the municipality of Nastola for an artwork to be placed in the roundabout at Villähteentie street. The work, almost 5 metres tall, is made of plastic water pipes, painted bright red, that form the shape of a crucible used to melt metal. By virtue of its title and material, the sculpture makes an insightful reference to Uponor and the factory’s history as a major innovator in plastic. The work serves as a highly visible landmark, and the red colour links it to the Nastola coat of arms.
