Pauliina Mäkelä and Topias Tiheäsalo: Gold Palms at 15

In Gold Palms, visual and sonic dimensions combine to create a magical, contemporary magic lamp performance – like an experimental laterna magica. Living image and living sound are presented simultaneously. The duo create a kind of a real-time, expanded cinema. There is experimentation and chance: a single performance can never be reproduced as it is.

Pauliina Mäkelä and Topias Tiheäsalo use old analogue technology. Images and concrete reflections projected by a projector are accompanied by the sounds of an electric guitar, a transistor radio and a camera flash. In their analogy, the Gold Palms performances are direct, tangible experiences.

Mäkelä and Tiheäsalo live together in Turku. They work together on image and sound. Mäkelä is an award-winning illustrator who works with fine art and cartooning. Tiheäsalo is a guitarist who focuses on improvised and experimental music and also makes music programmes for Yle Radio 1.

Tickets 10 €. Tickets for the show can be purchased from the museum’s online store. Ticket does not include admission to Malva’s exhibitions. The length of the show is around 1 hour.
